Freelance Jobs and Freelance Websites - Real Data Entry Jobs, Work From Home
82Freelance Jobs: What is Freelance Work?
Freelance work is just like regular employment, except you are only performing one task for the company who need the work doing. Freelancers are self-employed, so you receive the money direct once you've finished the work and you have to declare the income to your IRS or Inland Revenue.
Doing freelance work is a great way to work for yourself, to start your own business, but without any of the cost, overhead or advertising you'd need in many other businesses.
Everybody has a skill they can use as a freelancer. You might be a proof-reader, or a writer; perhaps you know how to use MS Excel; maybe you're good on the telephone and so can make sales calls to a company's clients. Every freelance booking is slightly different and you simply choose the ones you can do, contact the advertiser direct and let them know how much you'd want to do the work for them. It couldn't be easier.
You don't need a website, nor headed paper/business cards. You don't make appointments with people to discuss your business... you simply look down the list of hundreds of available jobs and when you spot one you can do you apply and write a simple paragraph outlining why they should pick you, when you can do the work and for how much.
Freelance Jobs: Getting Paid
Many freelance jobs websites guarantee your payment. You register with the site (which is quite often free) - and the job advertisers register with the site. When you contact the advertiser to let them know you can do the work, they pay the fee up front into a system known as Escrow.
Once you've completed the work they simply release the funds to you. With online freelancing, it's a lot simpler to get paid, I find it quicker and simpler.
If there should ever be any dispute over the freelancing work you did and the fee, then the Escrow system will handle that.
Doing freelance jobs and being paid like this really makes it a quick way to earn money and get paid without waiting more than 1-2 days beyond the work completion date.
You do not have to produce invoices either - this is great because it can be quite time-consuming or even daunting to produce them. You don't have to chase the money or wait months like in most jobs or small businesses; the money is virtually instant once you've completed the tasks.
Trust And Take A Chance
Sometimes you just have to seize the moment, trust people and take a chance. As a freelancer you're using your time. Sometimes you will get people contact you and asking you to do work for them, on a freelance basis. Sometimes it's worth just taking them at their word and seeing if they pay; sometimes the job is too complex to spend so much time on it.
I've taken chances as a freelancer that somebody who contacted me would pay up - and usually they do. In fact, the worst people for paying have been the ones I've met in my local area, I've met them face to face on several occasions - and still they didn't pay up. My most successful freelance jobs have always come from online.
So sometimes, you just have to trust and seize the day.

Freelance Jobs: Jobs Using MS Excel
Quite often there is a need for freelancers who have Excel skills to undertake simple or complex tasks using Excel.
They might simply want somebody to copy/paste data from a number of websites into a list in Excel, or they might want somebody to type in data into Excel.
Jobs using Excel are becoming more and more common because the data can easily be imported from an Excel spreadsheet directly into a website. So a company might be wanting to create an online directory of information, for anything like every business in one town, through to all businesses of one type across a whole country. They will hire a freelancer to gather the data into Excel for them, then they can simply pass that to their programmer to drop the data into the database that runs their website.
Finding jobs using MS Excel is easy because these jobs are usually advertised solely on freelance jobs websites. Check out the listings below for jobs using Excel that need filling right now:

This is a really informative hub
I will be sure to try out some of these ! Thank you for your hub.
Hi earner. Thank you for sharing this valuable information with us. I was actually looking for this type of info and this hub is just the thing I needed. I have book-marked this hub. Thank you.
I do a lot of freelance work through various sites. Many are full of low ball bidders which make it hard to earn a living. But if you are US based and willing to talk on the phone you can get jobs willing to pay more for your service.
I gave oDesk a shot, but it seemed like the pay rate was just too low for me. Living in America and attending college means that I can't afford to waste my time writing 3 articles for $10. I've sort of given up on the "finding a job online" thing because of it.
Good to know. I stick to writing at the moment
great hub. very informative. will try out some. wish me luck:)
Thank you for this compelling hub. Instead of just chattering on-line, I think I'll try your suggestions.
Get paid to do what you'd do for free, right?
This looks worth a try
Good informed hub,
I write freelance and use the likes of oDesk and Elance. You do have to trawl through the adds though as there are a lot of cheapskates out there expecting to pay a dollar for an hours work. I can make ten times that sweeping floors and there is no imagination required.
However if you avoid the idiots, you can find some decently paid work online. Making approaches directly to magazines and sites sometimes gets you a better rates.
I had no idea people could do freelance data entry work from home. Thanks.
Of all the outsourcing freelance sites I've found rentacoder the topmost one. Everywhere there are people wanna get their job complete without spending reasonable amount of money. they are tricky too. So, a freelancer should always be cautious of those people.
Thanks for the great hub on data entry jobs I can do at home. I've been looking for info on this. Very helpful!
I'm 'celebrating' my first year as a freelance writer, mostly academic write-ups. I still can't quit my day - job over freelance writing but yes, it can be quite lucrative (especially since we have a high exchange rate here). Thanks for the hub earner.
that‘s quite right
Awesome hub. I've been thinking about it for some time. Maybe I should stop thinking and start doing :)
At first I had to take jobs that payed too little on these types of sites. But after building up credibility I was able to raise my rates enough to do this work full time.
I would love to explore these things.. thanks for the info..
I tried a few of the freelance writing sites, I was on there for a few weeks, and the one I used charged you for applying for jobs. Whether you get a call back or not, you had to pay to apply.
They only ones I got call backs on were spammers and SEO companies looking for people to re-write pages of keyword filled crap and post it on multiple blogs.
The only almost legitimate company that contacted me was a realestate job for posting houses pictures and information, but the website they used was so complicated, even though I design and build websites, it still took a good hour for each post, and they wanted to pay $3.50 per post LOL
My question would be, are you just writing this hub about freelance sites, or have you actually participated ??
Thanks very much for this good info. Helpful comments too.
Nice hub, but Freelancing to me is more of slaving (sorry if I sound immodest) but the thing is that I'll rather take out that time for freelancing and write for my blogs or update my hubs with new info. Though I know of a few people earning big from this, the thing with these set of people is that there are established writers and programmers, not green horns and rookies like most of us reading this. Congrats for landing a job worth a whooping $18,000. Hope you send me and other hubbers some lady gaga tickets lol. Thanks for sharing and I wish you more luck with your free(slave)lancing!
Freelance opportunities can be very lucrative but the perspective freelancer still needs to perform due dilligance to investigate the opportunities. Many are scams, as you state, these are often sites advertised through SPAM.
One other concern for the perspective freelancer to pay attention to is intellectual property rights. If an opportunity requests that the freelancer copy material from the web, there may be a matter of copyright infringment to deal with and the freelancer may be liable for any damages.
Great information. There seem to be more freelance jobs out there than I realized. Rated up, useful and bookmarked.
great hub!!! very helpful...thanks
great hub! i have also realized that there are sites like espring content where one is not required to bid. these can be quite helpful if you are not willing to keep competing with others for new jobs every other day
Really helpful, Thanks!!
I was doing freelance before, myself as a graphic artist and the bank just drained my savings with their fees, so I closed my business account. There are several freelance jobs working from home that I need to recheck and rethink. Thanks for this hub of yours!
Useful Hub.Thanks for sharing!!!
