How To Increase Your Author Score to 100 on Hubpages
76How to Increase Your Author Score to 100 on Hubpages
Firstly, I will say it's not that difficult to get to be a hubber with an Author Score of 100 on hubpages.
Secondly, I will say it's really not THAT important.
When you first join hubpages, your author score will be 30. As you publish new hubs, get traffic, get comments, you will find your author score increasing. Maybe at first you never even noticed. I certainly didn't even understand hubpages at all - and I still don't know everything about it. Hubpages is an incredibly powerful system and, in time, if you work at it, you'll find yourself spotting new areas, new features, new things ... and reading the forums to pick up and use top tips.
When you do become an author with an author score of 100 you'll suddenly realise it's a bit like catching a butterfly. There are so many variables that go into making up your score that you can literally lose it in the blink of an eye. You've done nothing different, nothing wrong, it's just gone. Maybe that day your hubs aren't getting the traffic you were getting last week. Maybe you should have posted in the forum today and you didn't. I've woken up and seen myself as having an author score of 100, made a coffee, come back and I'm a 99. It's really not worth worrying about! Just enjoy your hubbing .... once you stop worrying about it you can concentrate on more interesting things.
As you'll see from my score right now, I am not a 100. I've just had a six month break (I was moving around/didin't have internet access), when I came back I was still a 92 - that's because my hubs were generating good traffic and getting good comments. Concentrate on your hubs, not your scores!
On the other hand, if you want to know HOW to increase your author score to 100 on Hubpages, here's my quick tip list:
Use the Forums
Using the forums can really boost your visibility on Hubpages. Join in the community, read what others have to say, comment where relevant. Start your own interesting threads. One tip though: don't get confrontational or argumentative with people ... it's just pixels! Chill.
The more you use the forums, the more you'll learn, the more people will notice you and read your hubs - and the higher you'll see your author score creeping.
Write Good Hubs
The definition of a good hub should at least be:
- Write a worthwhile length of hub. Sometimes hubs are short as there's not much to say, but try not to scrimp. Remember you can edit them at any point in the future, so re-visit your old hubs and tweak them, add a bit more if you can. Make them worthy of a read.
- Make sure you write in good English, check your spelling and grammar.
- Use headings and paragraphs to break it up so it's easy to follow - most people don't read every word online, they skim and skip about. Your readers want an easy to read piece, not something that's one mass of text.
- Use pictures where you can. I struggle with this bit as the photos/images have to be legal and I can't create my own. Sometimes finding the right picture can take me two hours before I just go with "the best I found/it's not perfect but it'll do" when the hub itself only took 20 minutes to write! It's annoying, but people do like pictures.
Promote Your Hubs
I figure if it's interesting enough for me to write about it, then it's interesting enough to tell people about it somewhere on the Internet. When you promote your hubs, people visit and read them. This traffic will increase your author score. You don't have to stress about the whole promotion thing, but I do like to set myself an easily achievable goal of putting at least one link to my hubs somewhere on the Internet. Maybe you have a signature on a forum somewhere, maybe you Tweet, do you have Myspace/Bebo or a similar membership - if so add something into your profile. Just tell somebody .. anybody ... for every one. Yes, if you spent half a day promoting every hub you write, then your traffic will rocket and you'll get a high author score quicker, but that's a lot of pressure to put yourself under. Enjoy hubbing, or you'll drop out.
Join a Hub Challenge
I joined in 2007, but actually did pretty much nothing until late 2009 (bad aren't I!). Then I joined the 30 day challenge during October and that really turned things around. I was motivated, I was driven, I was writing on steroids! At first you might be a shrinking violet and think "oh that's not for me", but why not ... it's only pixels. Go for it! Hubchallenges really are the key to success! They show you what you're capable of, then you really reap the rewards when the money comes in.
Answer Questions
There's a Questions/Answers section - see if you can answer the questions of others. People will link through and read your hubs.
Use the Tagging/Choose Good Tags
Try to think hard (for about 3 minutes) about what tags are useful and important. What tags do other people use that write about the same things that are in your hubs? Tags create a method for people to be able to move around hubs easily. Use them.
Use Grouping For Your Hubs
One thing you can do is create groups for your hubs. If, for example, you have 10 hubs about pets and 6 recipes, you could create two groups called "pets" and "recipes". You then assign your hubs to the relevant group and instantly a set of navigation arrows appears in each of your hubs, leading readers to other hubs in the same group. Remember, if you forget to do this, it's something you can always do in the future. Maybe at the beginning you don't have enough hubs that are similar enough to create a group ... but when you do, try to remember the feature's there!
Check Your Stats
There's a stats feature in your hub, once it's been running a few months, check your stats. Where's your traffic coming from? Is the traffic growing? What keywords are people using to find your hub?
If you don't know what's working and what's not working, then you can't begin to improve.
Optimise Your Layout
There are thousands of different layouts you can use in your hub. Large picture at the start, large text block at the start. Include/not ebay or Amazon modules ... the list is endless. Read the forums, see what other people suggest. Try new layouts on your hubs.
Use An rss Feed in Your Hubs
If a subject is topical, there'll be other sites publishing relevant information. Get relevant rss feeds into your hub and that'll keep it an active page, which Google will like.
All of the above are relevant in their own way, but overall if you're writing new hubs, promoting them, joining in the forums, then you'll be accumulating 'brownie points' towards your author score.
Link to the Hubs of Others
If you see a hub that's a great resource, link to that hub from yours.
Reply to Comments
People will comment on your hubs. Where you can, reply to their comments. This is polite and makes people realise you're there and real!
I'm sure I've left out something ... but if you can try to do the above, then you'll very quickly find that you too can have an author score of 100 on Hubpages!
Don't forget: ENJOY!!

I was confused about the hub score but with articles like these I'm starting to understand. Thanks!

Great hub! Thanks man!
This is excellent information for someone who is new to Hubpages. Articles like this really help us understand the scoring process. Thank you.
Thank you for the tips. I often wondered how hubbers managed to get 100 score and keep it.
Wow! This is a great info for all of us.
I really like your hub! so I gave you 5*.. how about that?!...

Thank you so much!
Thanks for the Hub, at present I am creating a Hubpages Tribe, this is all about syndictation and helping others including, making comments on others Hubs to help with social proof. I think being involved would help push up authors scores.

Good advise and I will bookmark this Hub as well it is a good primer for beginners!
Thumbs up
Thats an awesome bit of info! I always try to create a lot of social bookmarks for a hub when its finished to try and drive traffic also.
Thanks; I set up an account a few months ago but didn't do anything with it until yesterday; apparently that inactivity with no content drove my score down to a 17! Hopefully it'll head up now that I've started working on my hubs..
This was a very informative piece. Thank you for all of the good information. As a new Hubber of two weeks I am trying to learn my way around. Thanks again~ Look forward to reading more from you.
Thanks so much for this fine hub. I did not understand author scores.
Great hub earner, I have been using everything in this hub to increase my author score and guess what it is increasing.. Thanks for the read.. Thumbs up..
Very good hub, greatly appreciated! So much to learn!!!
Pretty useful info on getting the author score up and at the same time not to worry too much abt it! Just enthusiastically posting relevant content at frequent intervals is the key I guess. I am a hubpages newbie so really handy tips. Nice hub and useful links. Thanks.
Thanks for this great post.
It is possible but not easy
Thanks for the great Hub!! I apparently have lots of work to do to make things better!
Good information. You are totally right, my friend. My score was up and down. From 100 hub score down to 95 hub score. I agree with you that I have to concentrate with my hub not my score. If I give attention to my reader my hub also climb up. Thank you very much.

thank you for such a fantastic hub, i'm definately a fan and excited to try review my hubs and implement. . Will work way thru your other hubs . D
Straight-forward advice here thanks. Still being new to Hubpages I am concerned with having such a low score, but hopefully in time this will change.
Thanks for sharing this information. This was very helpful. I was wandering about the score thing. I didn't know if it should be 1 or 100. Now I do thanks to you. I'm a fan.
Thanks for the level of detail here. Still trying to get over 30 for my author score. Hoping this will help be get at least closer to 100
Thanks earner...great informal hub. As I am new to this, I have bookmarked this hub!
Thanks bro. Great advice. I'll implement your tips
Amazing hub. I'm going to make sure to take all your advice and learn more about hub and work on my journey here. It's addictive :-)
liked it. Nice hub
These are some very good tips. I will try to follow some to increase my score too. Thanks.
Earner loved this great info! I'm even printing it out on real paper to peruse later . . . thank you for sharing and I think your score on this should be a 100.
:)
I kinda agree, Earner, that a score of 100 isn't THAT important. I've been having an absolute BLAST asking and answering questions, although I DO tend to get borderline argumentative in the Religion forums.
My score has been rising pretty steadily with a tiny amount of traffic, but I'm not really keeping track too much...
Thanks for this great Hub! I've been watching my score go up and down and wasn't sure what was driving this fluctuation and now I know.
Thanks for the advice, I started writing yesterday and I didn't really notice the hub score until today.
Excellent post.
It is amazing if you focus on what your initial goal is that everything else falls in to place.
Thanks for the words of wisdom.
Thanks for the great information.
Thank you so much for answering this question for me. What a great hub. You've got a new fan.
Very clearly wrote and without the jargon, nice and easy to understand. I will be bookmarking this and coming back. Thank you.x

Great Stuff! I am brand new to hubpages and I will be sure to use these startegies wisely. You're living proof that it works, so I will do my best! Thanks Again!
God Bless!
Thanks for reminding me of all these small but important aspects of hubbing!
Earner, thanks so much, I especially like point 4 where you talk about searching for pictures - it is challenging. Good Day!
Thanks! I am told and from reading everywhere to not stress about it, but I think it is human nature! This is why I could never be a day trader!! The pictures IS a pain and many times does take up a lot of my time and I really don't like to pay if I don't have to!
Thanks! I've had an account here for a long time but started writing hubs only a few days ago. I appreciate knowing more about how the site works.
Thanks! I was wondering how it all worked :)
This was a real help in gaining high score, i really appreciate your efforts.
Thanks

Simply Awesome
lets see how much I can score.
thanks for the nice sharing
Great hub. I've been reading a lot of hubs on improving your Hubber score and this is one of the best ones. I really like what you said about "catching a butterfly." That's what it feels like. I've been trying to figure out what the heck I need to do to boost my score. I added three hubs yesterday and my score actually went down! Anyways, thanks for the great info.
I'm a newbie to hubpages, and I still have a lot of questions about how things work around here. Your hub was very helpful! Thank you!
This is a great hub thanks so much. Can you tell me how do I join a particular forum. I really need followers and a forum to belong to , I just read your grouping mechanism and it is great.
Great hub! Haven't gotten a hubscore this high yet but I have noticed my score bouncing around a bit on regular basis. I didn't even know about the forums. I'm off to check them out now.
Thank you so much for this post. I was actually stressing over my score. My author score and karma score continue to fluctuate and it was making me nervous. So, again, thank you for the post. I feel a lot more at ease now. :-)
Thanks for writting this hub, it answered a lot of questions i had. Voted up and useful :)
Great hub! thanks for sharing these information's. I really need to make my hub score higher. And you gave me great ideas on how to make that possible.
Thanks for the advice, I've only been here for a few days so didn't really understand how it all work - it seemed like a lot of stress it keep it all going, but now you've said not to worry about it I won't - I'm just gonna have fun with all and see what happens!
Very informative. Thanks!
Thanks for the information. My biggest problem is that I don't have the time to promote my hubs or lurk the forums, haha. I'll probably just answer questions for now. Thanks anyway and have a good one.
Thanks for the tips for improving the author score to 100. But the sad thing is that nothing special to the hubber who achieved score of 100.
Thanks for the great advise. Much appreciated.
Ahhh....great and fantastic tips you've got going here
Great hub filled with info for the new hubber, thanks. I like how you say focus on content and promoting, don't worry about the score -- it will come with quality.
Thanks for the tips!
Great information. You answered so many questions that I had! Time to gear up and increase my Hub Score!!
Lots of good information and well presented - it does seem to be a prime example of the very thing you're recommending - and that's not always easy. Thanks
Thanks soo much I can't wait to get my author score above 75
Great Advice XD
Many thanks for this advice. My score is usually between 90 and 94, never higher than 100. I do think it matters a bit, because when I first started on HubPages, I followed the people with high scores in the hopes that I would have good examples to model mine on. Jerilee Wei was the first person that I followed and she's still one of the best in my opinion. I've got to make more time for forums - so see you there and thanks again.
Good Tips, I am newbie and your tips are excellents for me!
This is my first day on, and this information was very helpful. thank you.
Thanks for the info. I've been trying to write in my expertise and I've written a number of hubs for my hobby. Of course I've also written a number of funny, controversial hubs. I wonder if they affect my score if someone takes offense and votes it down.
That was the best hub i read till date.
Great point, don't worry about the score. Just write well! Traffic is not the only concern, however, we have to be able to convert readers into buyers!
This was very helpful. As a new Hubber I still have a lot of questions, this article really helped me out. Thanks.
Nice hub , by the way. I must notice that My hubscore on the beggining was 60 - not 30.
I really didn't even know HubChallenges existed. I'm going to take advantage of those, as well as the forums. Thanks!
Brilliant information and you put in a style which is easy to digest for a newbie Hubber like me. Voted up and awesome
Thank you. :) :)
Finally, some real tips other than "just keep writing new hubs". Thanks again!
Thank you. Something refreshing for someone new here like I am.
durely very informative. I like the idea of hub challenges and rss feeds. will work on it.
Crisp, to the point hub .I needed it.
Thanks for such good info.
Thanks for the tips! I believe what you say about focusing on writing instead of getting a high score. I believe also that best effort is writing about what is closest to one's heart. Will book mark your hub for future reference.
I'm just starting out and have a score of 20 - not sure if I did something weird or maybe they're starting newbies at 20 now instead of 30. Oh well. :)
This hub us EXTREMELY useful. Thanks for the down-to-earth explanation of getting high hubscore. I will refer to this often.
I don't care what my scores are I will rarely go on forums to up my score. When I was a new hubber I was right away attacked on a forum. I have never been confrontational or argumentative. I think I had just ask a question about my hubs at the time. I have never forgotten who those people were and they are now some of the high rollers on hubpages.
Interesting stuff. I'm too wary of the forums, simply because I know what Internet forums are like. I have some questions, but I suspect I would get leapt upon, so I'm just surfing the hubs looking for answers, rather than asking.
Great advice; I've found that it works to a tee! Thanks for taking the time.
Thank you for shining a light on the HubScore and it's importance, or lack thereof.
Hi Thanks for the great advice. I'm a new Hubber and that was encouraging information. Great Hub!!!
Thank you for sharing this important information. Outside of hub pages it is very difficult to get concise information on any subject and for free I might add. You willingly give your information and I appreciate that. Am bookmarking this for future reference.
up/interesting
Beautiful article!
Thanks for this information. I think we all have been there. Worrying too much about hubscore. We should do what we can and leave the rest to fate. Its a much better work ethic than worrying needlessly about fluctuating scores. I appreciate your advice immensely.
Very useful information. Keep it up.
Great hub, very helpful, thank you!
These are some great tips. thanks
Thank you, earner, I found this to be helpful-as I am a new Hubber. I was actually concerned because my score was and remains up-and-down-and-up-an-down. I thought that was a reflection on my Hubs. Your post was educational and while I am trying to learn how to improve my writing, I do what to also improve my Hub experience and perhaps garner some more followers.
Best Regards,
"Use Grouping For Your Hubs" - would you please explain how to create groups - sorry, I'm new to all this. Thanks
So Earner, what would you say is are the best practices for increasing your author score, and hub score, for that matter? BTW, thanks for the above.
Thanks Earner, so what activities would you say gain maximum improvement in author score, and hub score for that matter?

Great article! Thanks for sharing, very helpful info for this new hubber:)
What would you say is the best strategy for creating backlinks Earner?
Thanks for a great hub! My score is only a 25 and just signed up, it seems everytime i post it goes down! I hope I can get it up. I have written 2 hubs so far.
At first I thought i need only hub page score of 75 to get follow link, now I know that it is author score that plays part. Thank you very for you very informative hub.
This is such a useful hub for a new hubber like me! Thanks so much for this basic information in one easy to read place.
