Everybody has favourite pizza toppings - what are your favourite pizza toppings?

For me it has to be spicy beef or spicy chicken, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, onions, pineapple and extra cheese!

As for least favourite pizza toppings, I don't like ham, pepperoni, anchovies, sweetcorn, olives or mushrooms, which do tend to find their way into every pizza on menus!

So, check out my favourite pizza toppings poll - and red below for some great pizza toppings ideas. Why not add YOUR favourite to the comments box at the bottom!

  8. Shrimp

Making Your Own Pizza at Home

So, now you're probably craving a fresh pizza :)

Well, the good news is that it's quite easy to make your own pizza at home - and to even cheat.  You don't have to make the dough from scratch, or wait for it to rise.  No, below I'll show you several ways to make your own pizza almost instantly.

Quick & Easy Pizza Dough

If I want a quick and easy pizza, then I'll simply combine ordinary flour with a pinch of salt - and add sufficient water for it to look dough-like.

Once you've got that consistency, you can roll it out, put pizza toppings on, then bake in the oven - or, my quicker/favourite way is to just roll the dough into a ball, then press it down, which gives it a more rustic look than rolling it flat.  I then heat up a skillet/frying pan with a little olive oil and simply "dry fry" the pizza base.  Medium heat is fine - you don't want the outside burning while the middle's still not cooked.

Keep the dough moving around in the pan, then once the underside is 'sealed', simply flip it over and add your favourite pizza toppings.

Buy Packet Pizza Base Mixes

Of course, you can buy packet pizza base mixes, from any large supermarket - and simply keep one in the cupboard, ready to go.

Make and Freeze Your Pizza Dough

If you do want to make your own proper pizza bases - and have a little more time, then you can make up the dough and simply freeze it in balls, or rolled out, ready for when you actually want to cook a pizza.

Buy Ready Made Pizza Bases

You can find, in large supermarkets, packets of ready-made chilled, or ambient, pizza bases ready to use.  Make sure you know the difference.  A pack of chilled pizza bases might have to be used within 1-3 days, whereas a pack of ambient pizza bases will not be in the chiller, but will be on regular shelving and have a potential lifespan of up to a year.

You can freeze ready made chilled pizza bases too.

Save Money on Pizza Toppings

One thing to watch out for when buying pizzas where you pick the toppings, is that you're not paying more than you need to.

A typical example of that is if you're offered a list to pick from where "Toppings are $1/topping".  Some of those toppings are charging you way too much.

It's especially important to check for this when you're buying a pizza that's made up for you to cook at home.

e.g. if you ask for onion, you're probably getting 1/3rd of an onion - onions don't cost $3 each, so why not buy your own, loose, onion and add it yourself before cooking at home.

Sweetcorn is another item - it can work out much cheaper to keep a bag of frozen sweetcorn in the freezer to dip into.

Just buy the toppings from the pizza shop that you can't get your hands on easily/cheaper easily.  I'll happily accept chilli beef or even jalapeno peppers and bell peppers on top because it costs so much more to go and buy my own.  But tinned pineapple, onions and even extra mozarella can work out cheaper if you buy them and add them yourself.

Wow, I'm a little surprised to see that shrimp came in at number 8 on your list. I like lot's of toppings, but I guess if I had to pick one it would be sausage. Don't get me wrong I love shrimp and pizza, I've just never thought of combining the two, but I certainly look forward to trying it!

It looks like we can forget spinach as a pizza topping - so far it's had 0 votes! Spinach is certainly not a top 10 pizza topping at all is it :)

The Top 3 pizza toppings in the poll so far are:

- pepperoni

- spicy chicken

- jalapeno and pineapple! (joint 3rd)
